Job Description
Part-time Driver Trainer- ‘E’ and ‘B’ class license training
At First Student, our ‘Trainers’ are a constant reflection of our company’s commitment to safety and customer service. The ‘E’ and ‘B’ class license Trainer, is responsible for training and educating employees about safety and compliance regulations and assist the Safety Department with ‘E and ‘B’ class license training for new applicants ‘in class’ and ‘behind the wheel’.
Trainer Responsibilities:
Training and upgrading for related classified licenses and maintenance of all related records;
Assist Location Safety Officer with respect to training needs and development, i.e. Driver workshops, statistical data, route safety concerns, special projects as delegated;
Assist with accident re-training and evaluations as required;
Assist with school programs, i.e. evacuation and school bus safety;
Provides classroom and/or behind-the-wheel training to new operators or re-training of current operators;
Provides training to location personnel;
Tracks attendees and maintains training documentation based on regulations and company policy;
Safety responsibilities such as accident investigation, compliance forms, and safety meetings;
Some inside classroom work but majority of time spent outside and in a bus;
Other safety related duties as required.
Trainer Required Experience and Skills:
Must have a clean driving record, minimum 3 years free of any Preventable Accidents and violations;
Minimum 3 years holding a class “B” license;
Demonstrate interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively listen and to communicate both verbally and in writing with trainees, employees and management;
Presentation and coaching skills;
Pleasant demeanor with an unwavering commitment to safety;
Self-motivated, must demonstrate a strong team effort;
Flexibility to work mixed hours including during school breaks and summer holidays;
Familiarity with Highway Traffic Act, Health and Safety Practices, Company policies and procedures, vehicles and equipment;
Complete and pass the First Student Trainer Certification program prior to ‘Behind the Wheel’ Training of drivers;
Complete and pass Pride course;
High school diploma or equivalent;
1-3 years training experience/transportation, safety or related experience;
Knowledge of provincial regulations regarding safety and environmental issues;
Computer literacy with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
Consistent attendance and punctuality;
Possess working vehicle to travel within service area as needed.
