If you are between the ages of 18 and 29 and looking for an employment program that offers career counseling, two weeks of trades safety training, and an 8-week placement in a construction trade, this could be the program for you. This is an entry level program, meaning experience in construction is an asset, but not required to apply.
What does the program look like?
1.The first 2 weeks (March 12-23, 2018) will provide you with 60 hours of classroom instruction on:Career planning;Goal setting;Introduction to trades careers; Workplace skills; First Aid certification; Safety and training specific to employment in the trade workforce.
You will be paid minimum wage during this time ($10.96/hour). Following successful completion of step 1:
2.Commencement of an 8-week work placement (March 26-May 18, 2018) in a construction trade of choice (where employers are available), which entails:Career coach training and support for employers and employees;On-site supervision;Entry-level wages, as defined by the employer; Hands-on experience working in a construction trade; and Networking opportunities with construction companies.
It should be noted that in most successful work experience placements a full-time employment offer soon follows. Work placements are available in the following trades, including, but not limited to:
Carpentry, Concrete Finishing, Masonry, Welding,Roofing, Millwork, Sheet Metal, Flooring, Insulation, Plumbing, Pipe fitting, Painting, Electrical, Refrigeration, Building Exterior, Landscaping, Drywall, Glazier
