Position Type/ Hours:
This is a temporary full-time position working eighty-four (84) hours bi-weekly for approximately six (6) months within the Parks and Roads Service Branch of the Public Works Department. This position is within the CUPE 1505 Bargaining Unit and is located in the community of Fort McMurray, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s urban centre.
Position Description:
Under close supervision, perform manual labourer duties; clean and maintain all assigned areas/facilities, and perform general labour tasks in assigned department. Remain flexible to respond to the immediate needs of your area to increase overall effectiveness of operations. Operate variety of small equipment such as ride-on lawn mowers and tool cat.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Maintain assigned areas using various small hand and power tools and equipment.
Operate assigned equipment to include but not limited to light motorized vehicles such as small engine equipment, lawn tractors, implements, pick-up trucks, litter control equipment which are required to complete certain tasks.
Load, unload and deliver material and supplies.
Perform clean up and minor maintenance duties in assigned facilities and grounds.
Provide assistance to other departments when required.
Collect refuse in parks, playgrounds and streets.
Erect street signs.
Dig holes and trenches.
Direct traffic during street construction projects.
Manually sweep sidewalks.
Participate in the Winter Works Operation.
Assist in the painting of street lines and crosswalks.
Assist in the maintenance of wooden sidewalks, steps, fences and guardrails.
Assist in the repair of fences, retaining walls, bridge structures and foundations.
Ability to work shifts and weekends.
Perform all other related duties as required.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
Previous labourer experience would be an asset.
You will possess the following:
Must have a valid Alberta Class Five (5) Driver’s Licence with safe driving record (no more than 2 demerit points); any infractions will be reviewed.
Must communicate effectively and understand instructions and safety procedures.
Must be able to demonstrate dependability and reliability.
Ability to perform heavy manual labour for extended durations of time in all weather conditions.
Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
Must be medically and physically fit to perform all duties of the job.
Must be willing to work in unsanitary conditions (Immunizations strongly recommended).

Salary Range:
$36.15 (Temporary Rate)
In addition to the rate of pay, we offer other attractive incentives:
– an additional bi-weekly payment of $480 which represents a cost of living allowance
