Position Summary   :
Responsible for development and maintenance of proactive Labour relations policies and procedures; building successful relationships with numerous stakeholders including all levels of management and labour; negotiation and administration of collective bargaining agreements across Canada; maintaining compliance with applicable labour and employment laws; providing assistance with investigations, grievance administration, mediation, arbitration and  coaching to management on all labour relations matters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities   : Develops and manages nationwide labour relations strategy, policies and procedures  Serves as principal liaison between management and Canadian Unions’ leadership and local representatives  Supports corporate headquarters and field staff with labour relations strategy, guidance and day-to-day labour contract administration Manages the negotiations strategy, schedule, analysis, preparation and overall process by coordinating with Senior management, Labour Relations, Legal, HR, Finance, Operations, Commercial, other related departments and applicable governmental officials; assumes role of lead negotiator in collective bargaining as required  Oversees nationwide compliance with all labour agreements; for successor agreements, monitors the implementation of policies regarding wages, hours and working conditions Oversees national compliance with applicable labour and employment laws Manages the grievance administration function including grievance tracking, providing guidance and coaching to management on discipline, grievance investigations and hearings, preparation for and participation in advanced level hearings, mediation and arbitration and liaison with management and Union officials in order to avoid or minimize grievance activity Coordinates with Legal, HR, Operations, Security and other departments involving investigations of Union represented employees and/or governmental inquiries related to labour relations matters
Education   : Bachelor degree required; Masters degree in labour relations preferred
Work Experience   : At least 10 years experience in progressively responsible labour relations roles or  human resource roles with a focus in labour relations; a minimum of 2 years in the role of chief spokesperson in labour negotiations Expertise should encompass a minimum of 5 years of proven leadership experience to include developing business relationships with internal clients, building proactive relationships with Union leadership and local Union officials and government labour officials  Experience working in transportation, hospitality, manufacturing or food service environment highly desirable.
Job Skills   : Must be knowledgeable in Federal and Provincial labour and employment laws  Must have proficiency in all areas of labour relations, including lead spokesperson role in contract negotiations  Position requires experience and demonstrated competency in:  Business acumen Leadership Influencing Effective relationship building Business partnering  Cross-functional collaboration  Project management Negotiations Establishing metrics for LR compliance performance Analysis Time management Prioritizing multiple projects/tasks  Candidate must be action oriented, highly organized problem solver who enjoys challenges and working collaboratively. Must have strong computer and database application skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Communication Skills   : Strong written and oral communication skills  French language skills highly desirable.  Excellent presentation and facilitation skills are essential for this position
Travel   : Ability to travel up to 50% or more may be required during periods of direct labour negotiations
Environmental Requirements   : Regular office environment Occasional visits to catering facilities
