Gabriel Dumont Institute Training & Employment (GDI T&E) is currently looking to fill a Heavy Duty Mechanic position which has been made available with one of our employer partners. GDI T&E partners with employers across Saskatchewan willing to hire Aboriginal Apprentices (Metis, First Nations, Inuit) through our Aboriginal Apprenticeship Project.
Duties:
Responsible for ongoing maintenance and repair of a wide variety of equipment, both mobile and stationary
Hands on troubleshooting, repair, adjustment, overhaul, and maintenance of trucks and heavy equipment used in waste hauling, earth moving and landfill operations, and commercial trash compaction equipment and balers
Dealing with breakdowns in the shop, on the road, at the landfill, and at customer sites
Qualifications:
Applicants must have their Y3 Card in Heavy Duty Mechanics
Full set of hand tools required
Wide experience in electronic and pneumatic control systems, diagnostics on control systems hardware and software problems is an asset
Able to work in a team environment but capable of working independently
Minimum valid Class 5 drivers license with acceptable abstract required
As a condition of employment, all new employees to safety sensitive positions must successfully pass a substance test prior to their first day of employment. A criminal record check will also be required.
Must be Aboriginal to qualify (Metis, First Nations, Non-Status, Inuit)
Must reside in Saskatchewan
